Week 2 at KinderCare

I was anxious about Matthew's 2nd week at daycare because after the first week was over, he spent 4 consecutive days away from daycare, with mommy and daddy everyday.  But fortunately, it wasn't too bad.  Of course, he still cried when I dropped him off, but each day he waits a little longer before crying.  He used to cry as soon as he saw the building; then he started crying only when we entered his classroom; then it was when I took his coat off; and now we're down to crying only when he sees me getting ready to leave.

His teacher says he's adjusting pretty well.  As he's getting more use to the routine, he's feeling more comfortable.  Of course, he has his green blanket with him.  The teacher tried to put it away in his cubby, but Matthew wouldn't let her.  Instead, he carries it around in the beginning of the day.  As the day goes by, he ends up leaving it somewhere, but he'll periodically go back to check that it's still there.

I really think daycare is good for him and that he's learning there - even though he's been there less than 2 weeks!  One day, on his daily report sheet, I saw that they read books, said their colors and counted to 10.  So when we got home, I started counting with Matthew as I fed him dinner.  When I started counting, he starting counting with me using his fingers.  He would try to hold up just his index finger when I said one, and then slowly started holding up more fingers as I continued counting.  It was so cute! =)  I think he's also learning to feed himself at daycare because when I was feeding him dinner, he took the spoon, scooped up some rice on his own and put it in his mouth.  Success!  I haven't really tried teaching how to feed himself at home because I don't want to clean up the mess afterwards so it's kind of nice that he's learning (and making the mess) at daycare! =)
