It's official, my little boy is growing up - he took his first "school" pictures. It was actually at daycare, but every child had them taken and it reminded me of when we took pictures when we were younger. He's barely 2.5 years old in these pictures, but he looks like such a big boy. I can't believe how fast time flies - and in a few short weeks, he's going to be big brother! We've been trying to prepare him for his little sister's arrival by telling him that he's going to be mama's good helper when she comes, that he'll need to give his sister hugs and kisses, that he'll get to push her stroller and that he'll get to hold her. I hope he won't be jealous of her and that he loves her a lot!
Matthew has picked up a lot from daycare - he's recently been singing random songs that I've never heard him sing before, nor have I sung them to him before. Sometimes out of no where, I'll hear him singing "b-i-n-g-o, b-i-n-g-o, bingo was his neem-ohhhhh" or "clean up, clean up, e'rybody clean up" or he'll come up to me and say "mama, ring da wo-seeeee!", meaning he wants me to play ring around the rosies with him. His new favorite phrases are "I wahn it ______" (fill in the blank with whatever he's asking for, be it a toy, candy, asking to take a look at a picture we just took on the camera) and "dis one" (this one) or "right dare" (right there). He's also becoming quite the chatterbox. He often tries to tell us/explain to us what he sees going on or just tries to repeat anything we say. A favorite Chinese phrase of his is "die see Maffew die dee wahn ________" (when matthew is older, i'm going to play ______). Fill in the blank with a sport or whatever he sees some adult doing, like driving or riding a bike. He also has a very good memory - don't promise him something unless you are going to follow through with it because he'll definitely bring up whatever it was you promised him. And finally, he also looooves birthdays - he gets really excited when he sees any sort of lit candles and will think it's someone's birthday. There was a time when he started crying because he didn't get to blow out the candles after we sang happy birthday to someone else - thank goodness that stage didn't last too long!
