Matthew Says the Darndest Things

I've been trying to capture some of the things that Matthew say on video.  It's tough though because the camera isn't running 24/7.  So instead, I've decided to blog some of recent conversations in the past couple of weeks.  The conversations are so innocent, but hilarious at times.  (I tried my best w/ the cantonese phonetics!  Hope it makes sense!)

(Right before bedtime)
Matthew: Gnaw surn mama tong gnaw fun
                (I want mama to sleep with me)
Mommy: No, daddy tong nay fun
                (No, daddy will sleep with you)
Matthew: Nooooo (in a whiny voice)
Mommy: deem gai?
Matthew: Daddy smelly, daddy yeew shower!

(in the morning, waking up in mommy and daddy's bed)
Mommy:  Matthew, nay deem gai yeh mahn hay sun lay mama chong fun gow?
                (why do you wake up at night and come sleep on mama's bed)
Matthew: because maffew chong mm shu fook.  mama chong shu fook!
                (because Matthew's bed not comfy.  Mama's bed is comfy)

(While Pat's driving)
Matthew: Sloowy daddy sloowy!  Mm ho jah gum fai!
                (don't drive so fast)
Daddy: O K Matthew.
Matthew: Gnaw surn die see maffew dai dee jah cheh sloowy.
                 (i want to drive slowly when i'm older)

(At church, looking at a balloon that floated to the gym ceiling)
Matthew: Gnaw surn law gaw balloon.
                (i want to get the balloon)
Erika: Gaw dough hai gaw balloon gaw oh kay.  Gaw balloon fun gun gow.
           (that is the balloon's home.  the balloon is sleeping)
Matthew: No!  Gaw balloon mo gaw joy! (the balloon doesn't have a mouth...not sure where he came up with this one!)

(conversation during an evening car ride home)
Matthew: Look mommy!  Moon!
Mommy: Yes Matthew, hie gaw moon.  Tie ha, ho chee gaw circle.
                (yes Matthew, that is a moon.  look, it looks like a circle)
Matthew: Yoon duk jai, mm deem dough
                 (it's too far, can't touch it)
Mommy: Yes, gnaw day yeew gaw spaceship hoi deem gaw moon.
                 (we need a spaceship to go touch the moon)
Matthew: Mommy gnaw yeew gaw spaceship.
                 (i want a spaceship)
Mommy: Gnaw day mo cheen mai gaw spaceship.
                 (we don't have money to buy a spaceship)
Matthew: Dung gahm ga seen mai.
                 (wait until it's on sale to buy it)

***new addition***
Mommy: Oh no Matthew, mama gaw taw hai lahn jaw.
                (my flip flop broke)
Matthew: Don't worry mama.  Gnaw day mai gaw sun bay nay.
                 (we will buy a new one for you)
