We have a 5 year old. A 5 year old! How did the time go by so ridiculously fast? Matthew celebrated his 5th birthday with (20 of) his closest friends at Bounce U and he had a blast doing it. It was the first time we let him invite his "friends" to something. He said he wanted to invite all the boys in his pre-K class and then his friends from Sunday school. When we asked him if he was going to invite the girls from school too, he said "well, maybe 2." We were a little shocked at his response and was wondering who he was going to invite and then he says "Mrs. Holt and Mrs. Younis!" (his teachers)
He is growing up to be such a wonderful, caring, loving, sensitive little boy. A few weeks ago, we went out to dinner at a Thai restaurant and I ordered a dish with veggies that he and Sophia like to eat. As they finished up, I started picking at the remainder of the dish and when he saw a water chestnut, he says "I want that! I love water chestnuts!" and my response was that I love water chestnuts too. So I gave him that water chestnut and then continued picking at the dish. I ended up finding one more hidden in the dish so I pick it up and tell Matthew that he is in luck because I found one more for him to eat. His response? "No Momma, you eat it!" I asked why. His response "Because you love water chestnuts too!" My sweet, sweet little boy!
Last week, I took him and Sophia to Meijer. Our routine is that they can ride the Penny Horse Ride after each grocery trip if they are well behaved. This time Sophia went first. After she was done with the ride and Matthew was on the ride, Sophia was climbing around the horse trying to pretend to ride the horse again. Out of no where, Matthew offers to scoot forward so that Sophia can ride the horse again. Such a wonderful big brother!!
Turning 5 years old has proven to be a huge milestone for this little guy. He promised to start falling asleep on his own when he turns 5, without needing us to wait with him, and he has kept his promise. He promised to try to stop peeing during his sleep after he turned 5 and he's only had one accident since then. His most recent accomplishment is learning to ride his bike without the training wheels! The first video and second video were only taken a day apart. He's improved by leaps and bounds. Looks like we need to buy him a new bike!
And now just one final video for fun. :)

One more reminder to show Matthew's caring character: Matthew placed his own blanket over his father when he was resting on the carpet in the den. I believe that is when Matthew was 3 years old.
