Sports Fanatic

We realized this past NFL football season that Matthew remembers the number of every Lions player name that he can recognize.  What a great memory!  Hopefully he can channel that talent towards school!  He's been extremely into watching sports recently - making sure he catches at least a little bit of Pistons games on TV.  March Madness was definitely madness for him as he stayed up way past his bedtime watching some of the game.  He also just recently finished up his 2nd year of basketball with Upward.  I hope he continues to enjoy playing and learns the importance of hard work and practice and not think that everything should just come naturally.  We find that he tends to quite when something isn't coming easy to him.

He had a class field trip the Troy Historic Museum not too long ago.  It was fun watching him interact with his class mates - he's so much older now, speaking to his friends in a way that doesn't make me see him as my little boy.  "Dude!  WHAT are you doing?"  "Oh my God, no way!" (followed with a palm up hand motion).  Or the fact that he didn't really stick with me during the field trip!  *sniff sniff*

When we talked about moving to our new house in Rochester Hills, he was initially very sad about moving and leaving his friends - I could hear it in his voice and it made me feel bad for making him go through this.  However, now as we are getting more settled in the house, he is liking it more and seems to be doing a lot better with the idea of changing schools as long as he can invite his friends (and by that, I think it really just means Jake) over for play dates.  It probably helped a lot that 2 of the boys from his Sharks basketball team this year go to the same school he will be at next year.  I'm praying for a smooth transition into the new school for him.  Overall, he's such a good kid - always happy, willing to help out when asked to, obedient, smart, thoughtful and a loving big brother.  Not sure what we did to deserve such a wonderful little boy!
