Happy birthday to our 8 year old!

For his birthday, we gave him 2 options. Option 1 was to invite a few friends to join
him for bowling or laser tag or something of that sort. Option 2 was to go see Wild Kratts Live at the
Fox Theater. When I gave him option 2,
he asked if his friends would be going too.
Being the cost conscious mom I am (or cheap as some would consider :P),
I said “uh…no. It would just be
us.” With that answer, he says “Yeah! Let’s go watch Wild Kratts!” Then it dawned on me that he was kind of
embarrassed to let his friends find out that he likes Wild Kratts. Perhaps no one talks about them at school so
he doesn’t think anyone likes them. But
for him, he loves watching Wild Kratts on TV and learning about all the
different animals.
He also did not want cake for his birthday. He just wanted cupcakes with no
frosting. So we made cupcakes with no
frosting. Coincidentally, uncle Keith
bought him Pie Face Show Down for his birthday so we bought whipped cream for
that game and it Matthew ended up adding whipped cream on top of his cupcakes
and loved it. He also wanted ribs and potatoes for his birthday dinner. I am thankful that simple
birthdays (and NBA 2K17!) can keep him happy!
