We got a letter from school the other day informing us of the district's desire to further assess him in his mathematics abilities because his testing indicates that he has exceptional ability and performance in that area. He was (and we were as well!) beaming with pride! He's always done well in school though so although we were surprised, we weren't that surprised either.
He started playing in a kid pitch baseball league. When we signed him up to play, he was hoping that there would be other kids from his school on the team but when we got to the first practice, we didn't recognize anyone. But he didn't let that bring him down - he just ran into the field and asked where he should stand. I love that he doesn't really care whether or not he knew anyone on the team. He just said that he would make new friends. He's been loving baseball so far though and was even adventurous enough to try pitching!
I've had some early morning training sessions recently and grandma has been coming over in the morning to help get the kids off to school. I was told that when the kids came downstairs, Matthew would ask what his sisters wanted to eat for breakfast and he would get everything set up for them. He would get a bowl and pour out cereal for Madeline and get her a spoon and pour milk into her cereal bowl, all without prompting from grandma! I love that he just steps up when he needs to! Such a wonderful big brother!
We didn't throw him a birthday party with friends this year. Originally he was going to invite a few friends to putt-putt but then he asked if we could just do something with family this year so that he can have a bigger party next year (like at Airtime) because he's turning 10 but also because he will have better/closer friends by then. Then the next day, he asked if we can just skip next years party and just take him to Disney instead! haha This kid has big expectations!....luckily for him, we actually do have a surprised Disney trip planned for December! Can't wait to see his reaction when he finds out about it...now to figure out when/how to reveal the big surprise! That'll be a very happy day. Stay tuned for a reaction video!
