I've been slacking on these posts but now I have a reason to make sure I update periodically - Matthew discovered this blog and he read through all the entries in one sitting. Either he was very interested in finding out what he was like growing up or I am just a slacker and didn't post enough!
Either way, here's an end of the year update!
Since the last entry, he's finished up his first season of baseball. Although the team didn't do very well (they only won one game all season), he said he had fun playing. I love his positive attitude and that despite losing all season, he still wants to play again next year. He is actually a pretty decent all around player considering this was his first season. He even had a few chances to pitch - which was a bit rough at times (a lot of walks since for many of the players, this is the first year of kid-pitch baseball). Here a couple videos of him pitching and hitting (he's #3 in blue):
He continues to be a wonderful big brother for his sisters, especially Madeline. Below, he is in matching Goldfish t-shirts with Madeline because when she saw him wearing his shirt, she asked to change into her shirt too so that she could be like him! The second picture shows one of the many times he plays with and entertains her.
Cooking is still fun for him...when he's in the mood or gets to use special appliances. But throw in some seafood or steak and he'll always be in the mood to eat! He still has his expensive taste in food choices when given the options!
Swimming is something that we've recently gotten all 3 kids back into this summer. Matthew already had the basics down from previous classes that we've enrolled him in, but he's discovered that he really enjoys swimming when he started learning all the different strokes. After he completed all the levels, he decided to join swim force (Goldfish's swim team) which helps him build up endurance.
He's now in 4th grade and likes the typical stuff that boys his age like. Sports (both watching and playing), having fun with friends, video games and is currently obsessed with Pokemon Go.
The thing he is probably most excited about right now is our upcoming trip to Disney. This year, he's been asking about when we can go to Disney, not knowing we've been planning this trip since February! During the "reveal" to all the kids, he had the greatest reaction to finding out about the trip. He'll be tall enough to ride ALL the rides, old enough to remember this experience but young enough to be in awe discovering all that Disney magic! Can't wait to share all this with our [sweatpants/hoodie ensemble] wonderful, happy boy!
(and for fun, here he is doing the "floss"...because this was something that he was doing a lot of this year)
